Why is Ramadan the month of unique opportunities for the faithful?

Pars Today – Once we just think how much it has been recommended to contemplate on the Qur’an and the divine teachings in the blessed month of Ramadan, we realize that Ramadan is an appropriate period to revise the course of life.
The month of Ramadan and days of fasting not only purify the body, but also provide a good opportunity to expurgate the spirit. Thus, this month is the best chance to cleanse the spirit and the soul from the worldly pollutions and strengthen man’s bond with God. According to Pars Today, Tasnim news agency has written on the features of this month:
In this month, the faithful person, concentrating on worships and keeping away from worldly inclinations, tries to attain inward purity and sincerity. Once we just think how much it has been recommended to contemplate on the Qur’an and the divine teachings in the blessed month of Ramadan, we realize that Ramadan is an appropriate period to revise the course of life.
In this blessed month, individuals pay more attention to moral training and try to refrain from the conducts which harm themselves or others. Practices like controlling the tongue and wrath, not to backbite, and taking into consideration righteous deeds and helping others not only contribute to personal growth but also pave the way for shaping a more balanced and moral society. Therefore, Ramadan can function as an opportunity to rebuild social relations and human bonds in the society so that the collective spirit is guided towards integration and positive interaction.
Another aspect of the blessed month of Ramadan is that the spiritual effect appropriated by God for this month eases the righteous conduct of individuals so that human beings are more attentive towards God, keep aloof from sins and are watchful of their soul. This turns Ramadan into a golden opportunity. Prophet Mohammad (Blessings of Allah upon him and his progeny) said, “The month of Ramadan is the month of God, the Almighty and the Exalted; and it is the month in which God increases good deeds and erases evil deeds, and it is the month of blessing.”
The amplification of good deeds in the blessed month of Ramadan means that any righteous deed that is done in this month will have a much greater reward than the same deed in other months. This characteristic turns Ramadan into a unique chance for gaining reward and proximity of God. The deeds like ritual prayer, fasting, recitation of the Qur’an, spending in the way of God and helping others are very precious in this month.
Moreover, if a person decides to repent, God will forgive him and eliminate his sins. This characteristic has turned Ramadan into an opportunity for cleansing of spirit and soul. Those who fast can enjoy the divine mercy through penitence and seeking forgiveness so that they will be salvaged from the burden of sins.
Another point in this hadith is that Ramadan has been called the “month of blessing”. Blessing (Barakah) means amplification of good things in life. During this month, the deeds and even sustenance are blessed. This blessing is not limited to material issues. It rather includes spiritual issues such as psychological calm and strengthening of faith. The blessed month of Ramadan is an opportunity for spiritual growth, building positive changes in life and enjoying the divine bounties.
