Pars Today – The first domestically-built signal-intelligence destroyer, developed by Iranian experts, has joined the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The ceremony for the induction of Iran’s first signal-intelligence destroyer, named Zagros, into the southern fleet of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, was attended by Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi, Commander-in-Chief of the Army, and a number of other senior military officials.
According to Pars Today, citing Tasnim News Agency, the Zagros signal-combat destroyer is entirely indigenous and has been built by Iranian youth and elites. It meets the Navy’s needs in terms of intelligence and maritime security.
The Iranian Zagros is equipped with surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missile systems, enabling it to engage maritime and aerial targets at various ranges. Also, the destroyer is armed with advanced artillery systems, providing support for close-range operations.
One of the standout features of this destroyer is its electronic and electronic warfare systems, which play a significant role in detecting and countering electronic threats.
The Zagros destroyer, with its ability to carry helicopters and a deck suitable for aerial operations, brings high operational flexibility to the Navy. Its advanced navigation systems allow it to operate in diverse maritime conditions, while its powerful air defense systems ensure comprehensive protection against aerial attacks.
