Savage Ga$p is paving the way for Gen Z, and he’s here to take over the music industry once and for all. Having amassed over 500 million streams across all platforms, the rising star quickly took the internet by storm, first exploding on TikTok with viral songs “Pumpkins Scream In The Dead of Night” and “Tunnel of Love.”
Now, the self-proclaimed King of Halloween returns with his newest effort titled “drunk texting my ex,” linking with MC Virgins on the new single. The new release serves as an indie-pop anthem, touching on all the questionable things that come with being in a relationship. “Drunk texting my ex” pays homage to that catchiness found in the nostalgic era of boy bands in the mid-2000’s.
“drunk texting’ was the first song Savage made after becoming single and moving away to get a fresh start around new people. Sonically, the song sounds drastically different from not only the other songs on the album but all of his previous work. This signifies a departure from all the past feelings throughout the year that he felt, and a new beginning starting off on a much lighter less serious foot… cue the feature from MC Virgins.
Savage states, “I wrote this song for myself. I just decided one day to stop being sad over this breakup, and there was only one thing left to do: write a light-hearted banger about it with the boys, MC Virgins.”
The message is for listeners to know it’s okay to step outside your comfort zone, and have fun regardless of what you’re doing. It’s okay to try things that maybe people wouldn’t expect if you feel it’s the right thing to do for you. Not everything has to be super serious or meaningful, sometimes you can have fun or create something fun for the sake of fun itself.”
