Lavrov’s key meetings with Iranian officials / Why Iran and Russia pay no attention to European troika?

Pars Today – The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister, emphasized the importance of continuing constructive regional interactions between Iran and Russia, stating: The two countries share similar views on regional issues.
On Tuesday, “Masoud Pezeshkian,” during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister “Sergey Lavrov” in Tehran, stated that the two nations are strengthening their regional and international cooperation through bilateral interactions as well as via regional and international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union, and BRICS.
According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Pezeshkian described the growing relations between the two countries as robust and stressed the necessity of accelerating the implementation of agreements, particularly the Comprehensive Strategic Agreement between the two nations.

Iran and Russia have significant shared interests in maintaining effective regional cooperation
The Russian Foreign Minister also noted during the meeting that all efforts will be made to continue and expedite the growing trend of cooperation and the implementation of bilateral agreements, especially the Comprehensive Strategic Agreement between the two countries.
Lavrov described the process of finalizing Iran’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union as a new and effective opportunity to strengthen relations between the two countries, particularly in economic and trade sectors. He added: “Iran and Russia have many shared interests in maintaining effective regional cooperation.”

Rapid progress in bilateral and economic cooperation between Iran and Russia
Meanwhile, “Seyyed Abbas Araghchi,” Iran’s Foreign Minister, during a joint press conference with the Russian Foreign Minister in Tehran, referred to the constructive and detailed discussions held, saying: We reviewed various topics. Talks on rapidly advancing bilateral and economic cooperation have been conducted, and our collaboration spans energy, railways, agriculture, tourism, and more. We also had productive discussions on regional issues.

Increase in trade exchanges between Iran and Russia
Following this, the Russian Foreign Minister stated during the press conference: “Despite the pressures from sanctions, trade exchanges between the two countries increased by more than 13% last year.”
Lavrov added: “International and regional issues were discussed. Russia and Iran are determined to resolve global issues based on the UN Charter and the principle of equal sovereignty among nations.”

Russia: US unilateral sanctions against Iran are illegal
“Maria Zakharova,” the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, also said in Tehran: “All unilateral US sanctions imposed in circumvention of the JCPOA are illegal and illegitimate.”
The Comprehensive Strategic Agreement between Iran and Russia was signed by the presidents of both countries during Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Russia on January 17.
In this context, “Dariush Safarinejad,” an expert on Russian affairs, in an interview with the News Network about the Russian Foreign Minister’s visit to Iran, said: “The fact that such a high-level visit takes place after meetings between Russia and the US underscores Iran’s importance on the international stage.”
Safarinejad added: “Today, Iran, Russia, and China have become the new global powers, and these three countries are influential forces on the world stage. The main center of political and economic power in the world is shifting towards them. Even in the economic sphere, the combination of these three nations could mark a major turning point.”
“Ruhollah Modabber,” an expert and analyst of foreign policy and Russia, also stated: “Lavrov’s trip to Iran clearly indicates that Russia has a very friendly approach toward its relations with Iran.”
From this expert’s perspective, the European troika now plays no significant role in global equations, and their situation has deteriorated to the extent that even the Americans excluded them from Ukraine peace talks. These factors show that Iran and Russia must deepen their friendly relations to participate in a win-win game.
