The Iraqi president criticized Turkish interference in his country’s affairs and said, “Unfortunately, Turkish forces continue interfering in our affairs in Kurdistan region. We ask Turkey to end this interference.” According to Pars Today, in an interview with Bloomberg, Abdul Latif Rashid stressed that Iraq is a sovereign country and added, “Baghdad will not let any country undermine its sovereignty.”
Turkey has been violating the Iraqi territorial integrity for a long time with the excuse of countering the elements of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) which is in the Iraqi list of terrorists. Baghdad has several times called the Turkish attacks on the north of Baghdad as a manifestation of occupation.
Rashid also described Iran as a great and important neighbor for Iraq and said, “The relations of Baghdad and Tehran are friendly.”
He went on to say, “The people of Iran and Iraq enjoy social, religious and family bonds.”
