Pars Today – France has notably lost its political influence during the recent years and it no more enjoys the former impact in the international system of equations.
According to Pars Today, as one of the most important colonialists in history, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, nuclear club and NATO pact, France used to enjoy exclusive privileges in the international affairs. The country was famous as another important member of the EU- the other one being Germany. But, circumstances have changed and even the Western think-tanks maintain that France has notably lost its political influence during the recent years and it no more enjoys the former impact in the international system of equations.
Would it be better if Macron resigned?
French President, Emanuel Macron, held early election so that the fear of Le Pen and radical leftists would horrify French voters. However, Marine Le Pen gained many votes and Macron’s bloc had to seek help from the left. But, shortly after, he abandoned the left fraction allies and concluded an agreement whereby Le Pen would support a conservative moderate government led by Michel Barnier in exchange for advantages related to migration and other issues.
Nevertheless, despite many legal barriers, Le Pen made Barnier resign. Now, analysts believe that Macron had to step down because Charles de Gaulle resigned in 1969 though he had caused much less fiascos than Macron. There is no surprise, if Macron does the same, too, as the present conditions would be tough for him to remain in office till 2027 election.
Imbroglio in French government in view of media
Famous French daily, Le Figaro, has touched upon the decrease of France’s foreign influence and much weaker role in the international and regional crises.
Le Figaro has acknowledged that great problems have been caused since Macron’s entering the Élysée Palace in 2017, the most important of which are the public dissent over his economic policies and his inattention to lower classes in society leading to further inequality.
Ankara-based English language daily, Sabah, has analyzed the issue in this way, “Parliamentarian election showed that France is overwhelmed with political chaos.” Now, all French political activists know that Macron’s failure has resulted in political chaos in France and, besides internal problems, the country’s decreased international influence has further worsened the situation.
Less effective presence in Europe
After Britain’s exit from the EU (Brexit), France and Germany became the most important members of the union. As a result, their political problems directly affect the whole EU.
Anatol Lieven, senior fellow at the Quincy Research Institute, has said on the issue, “France and Germany are two important countries which are considered very significant for the European economy. But, just within a month, both governments faced with internal differences and tension on how to deal with budget deficit.”
In both cases, their financial problems, composed of economic recession and pressure on welfare budgets, have been severely deepened with the expenses of supporting Ukraine. One can practically see the financial crisis which will result in the perishing of the mainstream political parties and providing the ground for the growth of extremist and hardline politicians.
Losing political influence in West Asia and Africa
As a foreign activist, France has tried in the past years to affect Lebanon’s political structure as it wishes, but in no avail. So, we can daresay that a major part of the political problems in Lebanon originates in the French policies. Evidence shows that, in addition to Hezbollah, other political currents are reluctant to support Samir Geagea because, as a stooge trusted by France and the Zionist regime, he has no status among the people.
In addition to Lebanon and Syria, France has had remarkable political debacles in Africa, too. In spite of France’s political and security efforts to affect government-building in Libya, this African oil-rich country pays little attention to Paris’ demands and France has lost its influence in other African countries such as Tunisia, Algeria and Chad, too.
