Pars Today- Leader of the Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party, in an interview with an Arab media, spoke about the recent regional developments, especially the Iran-Iraq relations and the trip of the Iranian president to the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
Masoud Barzani, Leader of the Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), in an interview with the Arab language channel, Shams, explained the Baghdad-Tehran relations and said, “These relations are based on mutual respect and interests and there is no intervention in the internal affairs of either of the countries.” According to Pars Today, Masoud Barzani added, “Iran is a country with more than 1,000 kilometers of common borders with Iraq and enjoys many historical commonalities with us and it is an important country in the region.”
Pointing to his meeting with Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, during the latter’s trip to the Iraqi Kurdistan, Barzani stated, “Our meeting was excellent. The Iranian president speaks Kurdish in a way as if it were his mother tongue. He was kind and very intimate and seriously persuaded the expansion of relations and what had been damaged by the measures of former parties. It was an excellent session.”
He continued, “We spoke in Kurdish. Both of us were born in the city of Mahabad and our name is Masoud.”
Referring to the relations of the Iraqi Kurdistan and Iran during Pezeshkian’s presidency, Barzani stressed, “The new Iranian president’s coming to the region was a very good opportunity for improvement of relations with Kurds in Iran and even other world regions.”
