Pars Today- The Israeli regime universities support the plans related to development of the systems which are used in the control and monitoring systems for suppression of Palestinians.
The Israeli regime universities have been increasingly charged with supporting the wars that the regime wages. According to Pars Today, based on these charges the Zionist regime has been considered as a partner of the European research and development programs since 1996 and has been exorbitantly funded ever since within the framework of the plans like “Horizon 2020” and “Horizon Europe” research and innovation funding programs.
The Zionist regime has received 1.28 billion Euros within the framework of Horizon 2020 during the years 2014-2020 and more than $747 million within the framework of Horizon Europe in 2021. These funds were supposed to be spent for scientific and technical development and innovation, but they have turned into a tool to support the Israeli military industries.
Major Israeli universities like Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of al-Qods and Technion Institute (Israeli Institute of Technology) are directly using the European funding for development of advanced technologies. Most of these technologies are applied for drones, missiles and defense systems which are often tested on Palestinians and Palestinian regions before being supplied to the market or global marketing.
In view of this, Amnesty International announced, in a report, on the role of the Israeli universities in supporting the army and wars of this regime that the developed military technology in these universities is being employed in military operations which are considered as war crimes according to the international rules and regulations.
All major Israeli universities have established commercial companies which have concluded long-term partnership and contracts with military and security industries of the regime. This reveals how much the academic system is interlinked with military industries in Israel.
The role of the Israeli universities is not restricted to research and development. It extends to field military tests, especially in the Gaza Strip. In fact, the Palestinian Territories have turned into an open library for these technologies for testing a variety of weapons and control and monitoring systems on Palestinians.
The Israeli universities go even beyond this and enforce discriminatory policies against Palestinians. They prevent them from studying in the fields which are funded by international institutions and severely suppress any protest of students against Israel or the wars of this regime in the Gaza Strip.
The performance and measures of the Israeli universities have faced with extensive protest and criticism from the European academic centers.
In July 2023, more than 2,000 European professors and 45 scientific and educational centers called for suspension of the EU financial funding for Israeli scientific and academic institutions which participate in military plans.
