Pars Today- A Pakistani army general, referring to Iran’s missile capability and advanced launching systems, said that if Iran gains access to the technology of making nuclear warhead with full command and control structure, the existence of its nuclear program will no more be threatened.
According to Pars Today, Naeem Khalid Lodhi, retired commander of the Pakistani army, in an interview with the Urdu channel of Sahab network of IRIB, addressed the geopolitical aspects of Iran’s nuclear program and considered it as a strategic need for the country’s survival and independence.
Khalid Lodhi, pointing to the global climate and conduct of the big powers, said, “If Iran has not made nuclear weapons yet, international pressures will continue against it so that it never gains access to it. But, if Iran succeeds to attain this capability or get close to it, conditions will change and the regional balance will be redefined.”
Lodhi, with a realistic look at the contemporary history, mentioned countries like Iraq and Libya which were the victims of military aggression without having nuclear deterrence and stressed that power is the only language which is heard in such a [global] order. He added that if a country is powerful, others will keep aloof from it; but, if it is weak, it will be easily smashed.
The retired Pakistani general, then pointed to Iran’s missile capability and advanced lunching systems and noted, “If Iran gains access to the technology of making nuclear warhead while having full command and control structure, the existence of its nuclear program will not be threatened anymore because it will possess the capability of responding in the first attack or retaliatory deterrence.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, he referred to Iran’s recent talks in Oman, where it has announced readiness to turn its nuclear program into a joint project with Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Lodhi, described this proposal as a smart diplomatic maneuver which, on the one hand, shares the neighboring Arab countries in the transparency process, and on the other hand, leaves no pretext for the governments like the US to justify military action.
He reiterated that once such a logical and participatory proposal is rejected, no moral justification will be left for military confrontation and this issue will undermine the legitimacy of offensive measures against Iran for the world public opinion.
General Lodhi, pointing to the Fatwa of Imam Khamenei on prohibition of producing nuclear weapons, said, “If Iran has really decided not to move in this path, it will continue to face restriction and pressure. But, if the international conditions allow Iran to stabilize its economic and regional role and set up strategic cooperation with the neighbors such as Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan and Central Asia, it can pass through this cycle of threat and sanction.”
Finally, he emphasized that the countries, like Iran, which have turned threats into opportunities, have become stronger from inside. Naeem Khalid Lodhi enumerated some examples of Iran’s breakthroughs in the fields of domestic, military and economic production and considered this tolerance as a role model for other Muslim nations.
