Pars Today – Since the beginning of the indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, the possibility of any stoppage or disruption in the talks was easily predicted, because in addition to Washington’s long history of dishonouring and abrogating agreements, as well as America’s untrustworthy behavior, powerful currents are trying to prevent Iran from reaching a desirable agreement in an organized manner.
The indirect talks between Iran and the United States on Iran’s nuclear program began on12 April. The second and third rounds of these talks were held on 19 and 26 April respectively. The fourth round of indirect talks between the parties was scheduled to be held on Saturday, 3 May 2025, but Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi announced: “The fourth round of Iran-US talks has been postponed to another date due to logistical problems.”
In recent weeks, the new round of Iran-US talks, which was scheduled to be held in Rome, was delayed, especially in a situation where the United States, despite claiming a desire to return to the JCPOA, imposed sanctions on seven Iranian companies active in the oil and petrochemical sectors.
Such contradictory behavior clearly shows that the goodwill of the American side cannot be relied upon and easily trusted.
In the meantime, three main currents are actively sabotaging these talks:
First, there is an unexpected alliance between some American Democrats and hardliners of the first Trump administration, such as Mike Pompeo and John Bolton, who do not want a diplomatic achievement to be registered in the name of the rival government.
Second, there are European countries, especially France, who, feeling marginalized, are trying to destroy the atmosphere of the negotiations, sometimes with harsh comments such as the claim that “Iran is close to manufacturing nuclear weapons.”
Third, there is the Zionist regime and its extensive media network, which are constantly fueling an anti-negotiation atmosphere through media channels such as “Iran International” and figures such as the monarchists.
In such circumstances, the only effective strategy is the one outlined by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution: taking part in the negotiations with awareness and intelligence, at the same time remaining true to our principles and abiding by them, not being overly optimistic about the other side, and also relying on our own domestic capabilities and resources.
