Pars Today- Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, through the signing of seven memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and the formulation of a comprehensive strategic plan, have elevated their historical and cultural ties to a new level of economic, political, and regional cooperation.
According to Pars Today, during the official visit of Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to Baku on April 28, 2025, Iran and Azerbaijan opened a new chapter in their bilateral relations by signing seven cooperation agreements and emphasizing the development of a comprehensive strategic plan. The trip, warmly welcomed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, highlighted the deep historical, cultural, and familial bonds between the two nations and showcased a shared determination to expand regional cooperation.
In a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Pezeshkian described the relations between the two countries as deeply rooted in shared history and culture, saying: “We are like neighbors who live side by side and support one another. These profound ties act as a barrier against any attempt to create division.”
He pointed to the shared cultural, religious, and political values and announced that the two countries had decided to formulate a comprehensive strategic plan that would provide a framework for cooperation in industrial, scientific, cultural, economic, political, and security sectors.
During the visit, in addition to a joint statement, seven MoUs were signed covering areas such as political consultation, transportation, cultural exchanges, health cooperation, media collaboration, and investment.
Masoud Pezeshkian also addressed high-ranking delegations from Iran and Azerbaijan, highlighting the historical, cultural, and familial links between the peoples of Iran and Azerbaijan. He added: “These connections will pave the way for expanding regional cooperation.”
Furthermore, conveying warm greetings from Imam Khamenei to Azerbaijani officials, he stated: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always emphasized its support for the rights of the Azerbaijani people and believes that the Nagorno-Karabakh region is an inseparable part of Azerbaijan’s territory.”
The Iranian President described the presence of the Iranian delegation in Baku as a sign of the serious commitment of both countries to strengthen their ties, enhance unity, and deepen cohesion between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
