Iran's full self sufficiency in manufacturing advanced marine engines; from 3 megawat engines to national waterjet + pictures

Pars Today- The Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics of the Islamic Republic of Iran has reached complete self-sufficiency in the field of manufacturing various types of engines.
The new generation of 3-mgawat engines has been indigenized and produced up to %60. The Iranian Defense Minister, Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh, said that %80 of the production phases will be indigenized by the end of this Iranian year. He also informed of complete internalizing of these engines in the next year.
Details of 3-megawat engines
With 3-megawat power and weighing 18-ton, this type of engine has a rotation capability of 2,000 PM which has been assimilated with nearly 25-ton power-plant generators. The electricity cobblestone generators with several engines and diesel generator are among other usages of the 3-megawat engines. Moreover, compounding these engines as a small-size power-plant can be used in small companies, too. Using this type of engines can help administer the power imbalance in the country to a great extent. Thus, inauguration of the production-line of these engines has created at least 200 direct and nearly 600 indirect jobs.

1 million Euro saving
The CEO of Iran Heavy Diesel Manufacturing Company (DESA), Eisa Moradi, believes that making every 3-megawat engine will provide privileges to the new generation of these engines in the field of competition and price. Thus, every engine will prevent the exit of 1 million Euro from the country. He also maintains that mass production of the 3-megawat engines can improve the speed of the railway transportation fleet.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has gained notable self-sufficiency in recent years in the field of manufacturing marine engines. This breakthrough is mainly indebted to development and research in the marine industry and benefiting from the internal capacities in the fields of engineering and technology. Therefore, it could be said that the 3-megwat engines are not the only achievement of the defense ministry. Other types of engines have been designed and produced by native scholars and technicians.

National Diesel Engine
The 1300 power horse National Diesel Engine are manufactured in various diesel and hybrid types so that they have broad usages in road, railroad, maritime, oil, energy and defense sectors. The defense ministry, as one of the users of defense sector, will take a big step, especially in the naval and armored fields to reach self-sufficiency. Furthermore, this project has other specifications such as decrease of pollution, omission of fossil fuel usage, application of gas-based fuels, fluidity and smallness. This engine is also used in drilling, wellhead (industry) and power-plants related to emergency power.

Tous Gasoline Engine
The external-installation gasoline engine (Tous) has 200 horse power and is able to move desired frigates at 41 knots (74km/h). The lubrication, cooling, power-generation, power-transfer and electrical systems are the technologies which have been used in this engine. Designing of elements, electro-mechanical sets of marine external-installation engines and achieving the naval construction know-how of ground engines, ground and marine engine control, and settlement of equipment and laboratory needed for external installation and ground engines are among the achievements of indigenizing Tous marine engine.

National Waterjet Engine
This engine has been manufactured with the cooperation of the defense ministry industries, Sharif University and private and knowledge-based companies. This system is used for propulsion of different frigates in military, fire-engine, relief, trade, entertainment sizes. The manufacturing of this engine by native experts will bring about %30 saving in comparison with foreign products. Regarding that this system doesn’t create an appendage in the bottom of the frigate, it is capable of moving in shallow waters, stopping and rapid changing of direction.

The Iranian defense ministry has reached complete self-sufficiency in the field of manufacturing various types of engines through persistent efforts and scientific research. This important achievement not only secures internal needs to a great extent, it also promises new breakthroughs in future. Therefore, the defense ministry, relying on native knowhow and development of modern technologies, is able to take bigger steps in a bid to upgrade its capabilities in this field and register its status among the pioneers of engine-manufacturing in the world.
