Pars Today – Protests against the Netanyahu cabinet’s decision to resume the war on Gaza and violate the prisoner exchange agreement have intensified, spreading beyond various army units to university faculty members and doctors.
The extremist policies of Netanyahu’s cabinet and the resumption of the war on Gaza for political reasons have sparked widespread protests within the regime.
According to Pars Today, citing Fars News Agency, Israel’s Channel 12 reported that around 2,000 faculty members from higher education institutions joined an air force petition protesting the Gaza war, demanding its end and the return of hostages.
Channel 13 reported that hundreds of reserve soldiers in the 8200 intelligence unit, part of the Israeli military’s intelligence branch, also supported the pilots’ petition to stop the war.
Israeli media further noted that about 100 reserve doctors signed a letter calling for an end to the Gaza war.
On Thursday, hundreds of Israeli naval and armored forces personnel also demanded an end to the war on Gaza, echoing a similar move by 1,000 retired pilots and air force reservists who signed a petition.
This follows a prior petition by nearly 1,000 reserve air force officers and pilots calling for an immediate end to the war and a deal to return Israeli hostages.
In another development, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded harshly to the widespread protests within the army against continuing the Gaza war, claiming that the protest letters signed by officers and soldiers “were not written by them” but were “lies penned by foreign-funded entities.”
Netanyahu threatened that anyone encouraging refusal of military service would be immediately expelled from the army.
In a sharp tone, he described the protesters as “weeds,” stating, “These individuals are trying to weaken Israel and its army, and in doing so, they embolden our enemy to strike us.”
