Pars Today – The UN Secretary-General called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, reiterated his call on Wednesday for an immediate return to a ceasefire in Gaza, unconditional release of prisoners, and unhindered access to humanitarian aid across the Gaza Strip.
According to Pars Today, the UN Secretary-General stated: “The widespread Israeli bombardments and ground operations over just the past two days have resulted in extensive destruction and displaced more than 100,000 Palestinians from Rafah, many of whom have been displaced multiple times with few belongings.”
The UN Secretary-General condemned the Israeli army’s attack on a medical and emergency convoy on March 23, which killed 15 medical staff and relief workers in Gaza, adding: “Since October 2023, at least 408 aid workers have been killed in Gaza, 280 of whom were UN employees.”
In other news, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei highlighted a recent report by the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, who has called for pressure on the Israeli regime to halt its policy of imposing starvation and famine as tools of genocide. On Thursday, Baghaei expressed regret over the inaction of certain Western countries that claim to champion human rights, such as the UK, Canada, Germany, and France, in the face of blatant and systematic human rights violations in Gaza. He described their inaction as clear evidence of their insincerity regarding human rights and the rule of law.
Baghaei, while reminding of the shared responsibility of all governments to prevent and combat Israel’s heinous crimes, called on all nations, particularly Islamic countries, to support the oppressed people of Palestine through both words and actions and to help stop the ongoing massacre of defenseless Palestinian women and children.
Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), emphasized in remarks last Friday: “No humanitarian aid has entered Gaza in the past three weeks. Humanity is now in its darkest hour.”
Since October 7, 2023, the Zionist regime has waged a devastating war against the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 50,000 martyrs and tens of thousands of wounded.
