Pars Today- The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission asked Russia to show its “goodwill” and reach an agreement about ceasefire in Ukraine.
Kaja Kallas, Head of the EU Foreign Policy, said on Monday before the EU foreign ministerial meeting in Madrid, “Releasing of the POWs is among the measures which Russia can take for goodwill.” According to Pars Today, quoting from Mehr news agency, the EU foreign policy chief also called on the US to exercise pressure on Kremlin to end the three-year war in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the US President, Donald Trump, threatened that in case of Russia’s obstructionism for the efforts of Washington to end the Ukrainian war, %25-%50 tariffs would be imposed on purchasers of the Russian oil. Trump announced in an interview with NBC channel that he is angry with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and that if Moscow makes trouble in the agreement for ending the three-year war in Ukraine, new tariffs will be imposed on the country.
This is while, the Russian defense ministry stressed that, during the past 24 hours, in spite of Kiev’s announcement on ceasing to attack energy facilities, the Ukrainian armed forces continued striking the Russian energy infrastructures. The statement of the Russian defense ministry said, “The continuous intentional attacks of Ukraine’s armed forces on the Russian energy facilities indicate the complete failure of Kiev regime to abide by any commitment pertaining to settlement of clash with Ukraine.”
The Russian defense ministry announced that the Ukrainian forces struck a transformer post belonging to the center of Russ Setty- Bryanskenergo on Sunday which caused outage of consumer power for the families of Bryansk province.
On the other hand, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, likening Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, to Hitler, said, “Europe is in pursuit of prolongation of the Kiev regime.” Lavrov noted that they want to keep Zelensky in Ukraine with their bayonets, and added, “This happened during WWII, too, when Adolf Hitler had captured almost the entire Europe, and called on the French, the Spanish and a great part of the European countries to take arms and fight beside him.”
Nevertheless, Dmitry Peskov, Spokesman of Kremlin, announced that Russia and the US are working on the Ukraine peace agreement. Peskov stressed that Moscow will continue cooperation with Washington and Putin supports relations with Trump.
Kremlin spokesman added, “We will continue cooperation with the American party, first of all, for building bilateral ties which were harmed seriously during the former [US] administration. We are also working on implementation of some concepts related to resolving the Ukrainian war. This is being done and the process is time-consuming due to being complicated.”
