Pars Today- The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned that at least 825,000 Sudanese children have been trapped and threatened with violence and starvation in the clashes of “North Darfur”.
Sheldon Yett, UNICEF representative in Sudan, calling for termination of clashes in North Darfur, said on Wednesday, “We shouldn’t close our eyes to the hell that has been kicked up.” According to Pars Today, quoting from the French news agency (AFP), Yett said that more than 70 children have neen killed or disabled during the current Gregorian calendar year and added, “It is estimated that 825,000 children have been trapped in the catastrophes around Al-Fashir. This figure includes only the confirmed cases and the number of these children is likely to be higher.”
The civil war in Sudan has broken out since April 2023 after the escalation of tensions between the Sudanese army and the “Rapid Support Forces” commanded by “Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo” generally referred to as, “Hemedti”, but international mediation has been fruitless to end the war.
More than 600,000 people have become homeless, 300,000 of whom are children. 60,000 others have become homeless in the recent weeks.
