From Malvinas to Gulf of Mexico; why is Argentina’s insistence on the name of Malvinas strategic?

Pars Today- The local authorities of “Tiera del Fuego” province of Argentina try to prevent travel agencies from using the fake name of Falkland in their ads for trip to the islands.
The complicated issue of sovereignty on Malvinas Islands have caused tension in the British-Argentinian relations for decades, especially after the 1982 war. “Javier Gerardo Milei” the President of Argentina, has promised to retake the sovereignty of the Islands from Britain. According to Pars Today, conflict has escalated over Malvinas Islands as companies have been threatened concerning the name of the Islands.
A judge from the capital city of Buenos Aires ordered a travel agency in early February to use the Argentinian name of Malvinas for its trip ads instead of Falkland which had been fabricated by the British.
Argentina claims sovereignty over the Islands and calls them Malvinas. The shipping company “S.R.L.” sells tours on its website for the destinations of Malvinas Islands and South Georgia. This travel agency uses English names instead of their Argentinian equals to indicate tourist destinations. In addition, the agency has used the fake name of “Port Stanley” instead of “Puerto Argentino” which is recognized by Argentina as the capital of the Islands.
Judge “Guillermo Patricio Cánepa” has said in the summary of his ruling that this advertisement is illegal because it is in contrast with the articles of the Argentine Constitution which specifies the legitimate and undeniable sovereignty of Argentina over the Malvinas Islands.
He has also made it clear that the said ads have had negative impact on the national nobility of the Argentine people and contradicted the values and rights which have been recognized by the National Constitution and the mentioned laws.
This travel agency has been ordered to make the necessary changes in its ads material. The ruling of the Argentinian judge was issued at a time when the local officials of “Tiera del Fuego” province try to prevent travel agencies from using the fake name of Falkland in their ads for trip to the islands.
“Nicholas Peloli”, a local official, says, “What the travel agencies do in using the name of Falkland Islands, which was fabricated by the British for the Islands, is possibly done with the aim of finding new markets and selling more tickets.”
If this prohibition is ratified, local companies can face fines worth more than 764 pounds for every violation of the law.
Britain and Argentina have been disputing over the Malvinas Islands for long. This dispute led to the so-called Falkland war in 1982 in which Argentina was defeated and Britain resumed its dominance over the region. But, the bilateral dispute has persisted for over 4 decades on various issues related to these islands.
Britain has opposed to the start of negotiations on territorial integrity of the islands ever since. Although Buenos Aires and London resumed their ties after the Falkland war, the start of oil exploration operation by British companies around the Islands has escalated tension between the two countries.
London’s permission to the oil companies for drilling operation in these islands since 2010, has renewed tension between the two countries. The issue has escalated tensions over the ownership of Malvinas Islands, while Britain has fomented the situation with sending warships to the region.
Argentina has castigated Britain for militarizing these islands and using them for settlement of a number of military bases aimed at controlling South Atlantic region. Moreover, the differences over the ownership of Malvinas Islands have intensified anti-Britain sentiments among the Argentinian people.
The United States and many Western countries support Britain’s sovereignty over the islands, but the Latin American countries and many other countries all over the world, including China, support Argentina’s call for retaking Malvinas Islands.
Now, regarding the attempts of Donald Trump to change the main and historical names, like the Gulf of Mexico to the fake name of “Gulf of America”, the Argentinian move can be adopted as a role model for other Latin American countries to preserve their national and historical identity.
