D-8 Secretary General praises Tehran’s role in tourism diplomacy / Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan welcome tourism development with Iran

Pars Today – The Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization of Eight Developing Countries (D-8), in a letter to Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, emphasized the need for continued targeted interactions and benefiting from convergence capacities in the field of tourism.
Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, the Secretary General of the D-8, who attended the 18th Tehran International Tourism Exhibition, in an official letter on Sunday addressed to Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, described the successful holding of the exhibition as evidence of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s prominent position in tourism diplomacy. According to Pars Today, Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam, emphasizing Iran’s role in shaping new regional tourism interactions, announced the commitment of the D-8 Secretariat to follow up and operationalize the proposals presented. 
He requested Iran’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts to involve the D-8 Secretariat as a key partner in the planning process for the 2026 exhibition. 
It is worth noting that the 18th Tehran International Tourism Exhibition was held from February 12 to 15. 
UNWTO Secretary General highlights Iran’s role 
In this regard, Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in a letter on Sunday addressed to Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation, high levels of participation, organizational cohesion, and capacity building at the Tehran International Tourism Exhibition, describing it as a factor in solidifying its position as one of the most important international platforms for exchanging experiences, policy discussions, and discovering new investment opportunities in tourism. 
Strengthening tourism relations between Iran and Uzbekistan 
In other news, Nader Zeynali, the head of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Department of Alborz province, Iran, announced the province’s readiness to establish joint tourism tours with Uzbekistan, describing tourism development as a bridge to strengthening cultural and economic relations between the two countries. 
Launch of direct flights between Gorgan and Aktau (Kazakhstan) 
Recently, direct flights between Gorgan, Iran, and Aktau, Kazakhstan, have been launched to develop economic, trade, and tourism ties between Iran and Kazakhstan. It is worth noting that the visa waiver between Iran and Kazakhstan and bilateral cooperation in air transportation have provided more opportunities for tourism and trade development between the two countries.
