Tariff war | Canada: It’s foolish; Trump: I’ll increase them; Mexico: We’ll retaliate

Pars Today – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada as “a very foolish move.” Trudeau stated: “There is no justification or need for these tariffs today.”
According to Pars Today, on Tuesday, Trudeau warned: “We will take measures to prevent the predatory behavior that threatens Canadian companies.” He emphasized: “We will find new ways to collaborate with Mexico to counter these tariffs.”

U.S. President threatens Canada
In response, Trump threatened Trudeau, saying he would immediately raise retaliatory tariffs on the neighboring country. On Tuesday, Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social: “Please explain to Trudeau, the Governor of Canada, that when he imposes retaliatory tariffs on America, our counter-tariffs will immediately increase by the same amount.”

Mexico: We will retaliate
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also condemned the U.S. tariffs on Tuesday and vowed to retaliate. Sheinbaum stated that there is no justification for U.S. President Donald Trump’s imposition of 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico.

China: The U.S. should abandon its bullying behavior
Meanwhile, Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, reacted to Washington’s tariff actions on Tuesday, saying: “The U.S. has once again imposed tariffs on Chinese goods under the pretext of the fentanyl issue.
China has repeatedly expressed its opposition to this, and Beijing’s countermeasures are entirely aimed at defending its legitimate interests.” Referring to the fact that “the Chinese people will never succumb to threats or intimidation,” Lin Jian warned: “Pressure and bullying are not the right way to deal with China. Any attempt at maximum pressure on China is a miscalculation and a futile effort.”

Economic losses of Trump’s tariff war for U.S. industries
At the same time, David Gantz, a researcher at the Baker Institute at Rice University, described Trump’s trade war as a serious threat to U.S. industries, particularly the automotive sector. Gantz emphasized: “These tariffs will increase the cost of everything imported from Mexico or Canada that is used in vehicles assembled in the U.S.”
