EU’s €800 billion plan for defense capabilities / Bayrou: American weapons must be replaced

Pars Today – Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, announced an 800 billion euro plan for the EU’s defense budget, just two days after emphasizing the need to “rearm Europe” during a meeting in London.
Von der Leyen stated yesterday (March 4) in Brussels that the plan, dubbed “Rearming Europe,” will have the capacity to “mobilize nearly 800 billion euros in defense spending for a secure and resilient Europe.” According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, von der Leyen said, “The time has come for Europe, and we are ready to strengthen ourselves.”
The European Commission President added that the “Rearming Europe” plan will also provide “immediate assistance to Ukraine.” This proposal comes as the U.S. has halted military aid to Ukraine, increasing pressure on the EU to step up its support.

France: United States has abandoned Ukraine

French Prime Minister François Bayrou, responding to Washington’s suspension of military aid to Kiev, stated that America has abandoned Ukraine. Bayrou added that Europe must quickly and efficiently replace American weapons in Ukraine.

UK: Ukraine’s security is Europe’s security
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy also stated on Tuesday that Ukraine’s security is Europe’s security and that the UK will increase its aid to Kiev.
Despite substantial military aid from European countries, Ukraine has heavily relied on U.S. military support during the ongoing war. The capacity of European arsenals is incomparable to that of the U.S., and their ammunition and weapons supplies are finishing after years of aid to Ukraine.
