Imam Khomeini International Airport
Imam Khomeini International Airport has become the primary hub for international flights in Iran. Located 30 kilometers from the Tehran-Qom highway, it features two runways, each 4,198 and 4,249 meters long and 45 meters wide. The first phase of the airport became operational in 2004. The airport aims to become an aviation city and an economic engine for Iran. Most flights at this airport are international.
Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran
Mehrabad International Airport, one of the best airports in Iran, was established in 1938 in the Mehrabad district of Tehran. After the construction of Imam Khomeini Airport, Mehrabad was dedicated to domestic flights. However, some international pilgrimage flights still operate from this airport. Mehrabad has six terminals and three runways with lengths of 474, 3,992, and 4,028 meters.
 Shahid Hashemi Nejad International Airport in Mashhad
Shahid Hashemi Nejad Airport, located at the 15 Khordad Square in Mashhad, is one of the best airports in Iran. Its runway became operational in 1967 and now hosts numerous daily flights. It is the second busiest airport in Iran after Mehrabad, with two runways measuring 3,925 and 3,811 meters. The airport has two terminals, one for domestic and the other for international flights.
Shahid Dastgheib Airport in Shiraz
Shahid Dastgheib Airport in Shiraz, established in 1929, is another of Iran’s best airports. It has two runways, 4,272 and 4,334 meters long, and boasts the most advanced navigation equipment after Imam Khomeini Airport. The airport has two terminals, one for domestic and the other for international flights.
Kish International Airport
The idea for Kish International Airport in southern Iran dates back to 1970. Plans for its construction were developed alongside the expansion of the island, and it became operational in 1978. Located in the central part of Kish Island, the airport has three terminals: domestic, international, and CIP. Kish International Airport operates flights to various destinations in Iran and the Persian Gulf region.
Shahid Beheshti International Airport in Isfahan
Isfahan Airport, one of the oldest airports in Iran, was relocated to the Jey Industrial Town highway in 1982. It is located 30 kilometers from Isfahan and covers an area of 1,315 hectares. The airport has two runways, each 4,397 meters long, and is equipped with advanced navigation systems. Shahid Beheshti Airport handles numerous domestic and international flights.
Shahid Madani International Airport in Tabriz
In 1947, a wireless aviation office was established at the end of Artesh Street in Tabriz, northwest Iran, and three years later, a dirt runway was added. In 1956, navigation equipment was installed to enhance the airport’s capabilities. Finally, with the construction of additional facilities, Shahid Madani Airport became operational in 1959. Over time, the airport gained international status and now hosts both passenger and military flights.
